In a honeybee colony there is only one queen. If two queens hatch at the same time, they will battle to the death and the strongest queen bee will reside her hive. If there is no queen, the colony will produce one.
Drones (male bees) do not or sting. Their single role is to mate with the queen.
Workers (female bees) collect pollen, make wax, nurse sick bees, and feed other bees. Only female bees (including the queen) can sting
The Queen bee’s role to control the population of the hive, lay and fertilize eggs. Queens can live up to five years.
Bee eggs look like tiny grains of white rice, and larva looks like a bright white grub.
Honeybee wax, comb, and raw unfiltered honey all have medicinal benefits.
A reason why local honey is better is because pollen is collected from the area in which you live.
The source of pollen will influence the flavor. Common sources are clover, wildflower, and orange blossom. There is even a Frankincense honey where honeybees pollenate a Frankincense tree.
